Houstoun House Wedding Photography

   by admin May 1, 2014

I thought I would share a few wedding photos from a lovely wedding I was at a couple of weeks ago. The wedding venue was Houstoun House Hotel, its the first wedding I have photographed there this year. Its a popular venue and I’m always there a few times every year. Its popular for a reason, its easily accessible from Edinburgh set in beautiful grounds with very professional attentive staff. I highly recommend it!

The wedding was with the lovely couple Jennifer and James. I went to visit the bride in the morning for some bridal preparation photos, I always like to do this as I think it works really nicely in the finished album, creating a story of the day from beginning to end. I always have the finished product in mind while I am working on the days wedding photographs, this time of day gives me the opportunity to capture lots of little details of the dress, flowers, jewellery etc.

I then headed off to Houstoun House to take some photos of the boys before the day kicks off properly, again this give me chance to capture nice little wedding photos that could otherwise get missed with everything that is going on. Remember your wedding photographs are what you have left to look at from big day, apart from a lovely husband/wife!

Unfortunately the ground was a little too soft after some rainy days to have the ceremony outside, of course this can happen anytime of the year. However it was a beautiful ceremony, I will leave these photos to the bride and groom I feel it is a very personal part of the day. Usually after the ceremony I look to shoot the group wedding photographs but its always nice to have a bit of flexibility with the depending on the weather, this day it look changeable so we decided to take a wander in the grounds of Houstoun House and get some nice bride and groom photos first. There are some lovely features in the gardens at Houstoun House, some lovely mature trees and always nice in the spring a cherry tree out in blossom.

After these we headed back around to the courtyard to capture all the family and friends wedding group photos. There is a nice little spot there which is great when there is a chill wind, its nice and protected, I’m always aware that often at weddings there will be older relatives who don’t like to be standing around outside for long periods especially if its a bit chilly.

Then it was time to head inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches, the wedding speeches is one of my favourite times for photography, it gives me chance to put on a long lens and capture all the candid expressions of the guests and the groom (often cringing!).

The main wedding photo opportunity after this is the wedding cake cutting and the first dance. I love capturing in an image the feeling of the moment and emotions at this time.

It was a pleasure to be a part of their wedding day and I would like to take the opportunity to thank them for booking me to be a small part of their big day. I wish them both all the very best in their married lives together.
